Getting to Las Cruces

From the East:  Take Interstate 10 West to Las Cruces.   Get onto Interstate 25 and travel north to Exit 1 (University Avenue).  Get off at Exit 1 and turn left at the top of the ramp.  You will see the Comfort Suites and Sleep Inn on your right as you drive west on University Avenue.  Turn right onto Triviz to get to the hotels.

From the West:  Take Interstate 10 East to Las Cruces.  Take Exit 142, turn right at the end of the ramp (Main Street) and then turn right onto University Avenue, following the signs for New Mexico State University.  Drive east on University Avenue until you see the Comfort Suites and Sleep Inn on your left.  Turn left onto Triviz to reach the hotels.

From the North:  Take Interstate 25 South to Las Cruces.   Get off at Exit 1 (University Avenue) and turn right at the top of the ramp.  You will see the Comfort Suites and Sleep Inn on your right as you drive west.  Turn right onto Triviz to get to the hotels.

The nearest airport is in El Paso, Texas. You have two options for getting from the El Paso airport to Las Cruces.
 

(1) Rent a Car:   Get your car at the airport, and ask for a map and directions to Interstate 10 (it is very close by).   Take Interstate 10 West to Las Cruces (about one hour).   Get onto Interstate 25 and travel north to Exit 1 (University Avenue).  Get off at Exit 1 and turn left at the top of the ramp.  You will see the Comfort Suites and Sleep Inn on your right as you drive west on University Avenue.  Turn right onto Triviz to get to the hotels.
 

(2) Take the Shuttle:   There is a shuttle service available between Las Cruces and the El Paso Airport, called "Las Cruces Shuttle Service."  The phone number is 505-525-1784 or (toll free in the USA) 800-288-1784.   The conference price for a roundtrip between the El Paso airport and the hotels is $35 per person; for a one-way trip it is $24.   Please call the shuttle service and make a reservation BEFORE you fly to El Paso -- if you ask for a ride just when you arrive at the airport, they may not have space for you, and if they do have space you will be charged the full price (a few dollars more).   When you call the Shuttle Service, please give them the following information:

  1. Names of People in your party
  2. Airline Name, Flight Number, and Arrival date and time at El Paso Airport
  3. Name of Hotel in Las Cruces
  4. Date and Time of Departure from El Paso Airport (if you want a roundtrip reservation)
  5. Mention the "HERMES Conference" to get the reduced rates
The Las Cruces Shuttle Service desk is located next to the baggage claim area in the El Paso Airport.  You will need to pay the driver IN CASH before the ride to Las Cruces begins.  They do not accept any credit cards.
 

Car Rental vs. Shuttle:  If there are three people coming from your institute, then your total shuttle cost will be $105.  For that same amount of money, you can probably rent a car for a few days and share it.   Las Cruces is a typical American city -- you need a car to have a good time.
